From the editorial office:
Novyevropa is in solidarity with all the victims of the conflict in Karabakh and refugees forced to leave their homes. We may not share individual political assessments made by Leonid Goseman in this text.
The tragedy of Karabakh was first described as a conflict of certain collective subjects - Armenians (not specific Armenians, but in general Armenians) with Azerbaijanis (also generalized), Armenia and Azerbaijan, Putin and Erdogan - they are not people, but symbols. But this tragedy is not symbols - nations, states and other things, this is the tragedy of people.
The fact that Russia betrayed Armenia and Armenians is clear for a long time. But it was forgotten, since the Armenian-Azerbaijani war was supplanted from our consciousness with other events: and what happened inside us, and Belarus, but now, of course, Ukraine. But the last stage of the Armenians of the Armenians Artsakh made his way to us even through the roar of war. In the first days after the start of the “special operation” of Azerbaijan about what was happening in Karabakh and in Armenia they wrote and spoke everywhere.
Think about, by the way, in words. Dictators do not want to use the word "war". War is bad, and they want to be associated with good. If there is nowhere to go, then our war is defensive. Even Hitler, having invaded Poland, said that we, they say, did not leave the way out, and so we were for the world (it is interesting when our bosses say that we were not left to the exit, that we were forced to go to Kyiv, they even know that they were repeatedly repeated by the fuel phrase?). Hitler spoke of his desire for the world in a speech dedicated to the annexation of the Sudet. Again, just like ours after more than 80 years after him. And tyrants are called their dictatorship democracy, only, unlike the wrong one, which is “in Europe”, the real one. And in the Stalinist constitution, every line spoke of freedom. This is because yes, half the world under the rule of the despots, but they and the whole world, including their subjects, understand that democracy, freedom and world are exactly what people need, even in Africa, at least where. And they, tyrants, do not need power.
Everything has already been said about the betrayal of Russia.
This is not about what is written in some article of the CSTO agreement, this is about what people feel. The Armenians felt that we were sure that we were obliged to help them, many of us also understood this.
Moreover, they were obliged to help regardless of which of the politicians of both parties was right and who was not. They were obliged at the moment when the Armenians and Azerbaijanis in which, unfortunately, began to shoot at each other.
For us, this, of course, is not surprising - Russia betrays everyone, primarily its own, what can not be betrayed to Armenia? Lenin betrayed, but not Putin? Let the Armenians talk about the consequences of this betrayal for Armenia. And for us, this means that that Armenia, where with sympathy and respect for Russia, to its culture and language, is no more. And in the world there are no more such countries. There are those in which they hate America and say that Putin is well done, because he is against the Americans. But Russia itself is alien to them. And she was her own to the Armenians. There will be no more. Putin surprisingly destroys the good thing that our country has achieved for centuries is not to control the territories, but this attitude that Armenia had, but will never return again.

My solidarity is today with the Armenians of Artsakh. And not the point, whose karabakh, will figure it out without me, if, of course, they still understand if this story is not completed. It's just that I, as always, with those who are bombing, and not who bombing. With those who are killed and kicked out of their houses and from their land. With the victims of the Stalinist deportations - with Chechens, Ingush, Crimean Tatars and many others, but now - with Armenians, with the victims of a new exile. At the time I write this, on the evening of September 29, out of 120 thousand residents of Artsakh, 100 thousand people left their homes.
Not the boundaries are important, but the people who lived there, but they will not live anymore - they abandoned everything and fled. Aliyev (Erdogan?) Wanted to get land without people - it seems to receive.
I am now on the side of the Armenians, because, as the hero of Solzhenitsyn said, the wolfhound is right, but there is no cannibal.
In the early days, all this was something speculative-the movement of troops, statements, and so on. And now the tragedy has become visible, has found her face, more precisely, the face. These are the faces of tens of thousands of refugees - everyone saw photos. This is the face of Ruben Vardanyan, standing in handcuffs between two Azerbaijani soldiers.

He and his Troika and had a good reputation. True, now there have been a lot of materials that he was a “wallet” of Chemezov, led a business with the Minnikhanov family and so on. I don’t know, although I am ready to agree that the white and fluffy billionaires in Russia do not grow (although I think that, purely humanly, it is not the time to dig up the incriminating evidence to Vardanyan-let it come out of prison at first). And he did not come to Armenia for money - he tried to promote the development of the country. And Karabakh did not promise anything but troubles at all, but he went there and, no matter how much he treated the politics that he pursued as head of the NKR government, he behaved more than worthy there. For which he was arrested.
Vardyanyan in a very difficult situation. Apparently, Putin does not like him much: he refused Russian citizenship, Putin could well consider it a betrayal-I, they say, allowed you to become rich and what did you do in response?
In Yerevan, some very informed people even believe that these Russian “peacekeepers” issued his route to the Azerbaijanis.
Aliyev does not like him - Vardanyan was one of the resistance engines, and even allowed his personal attacks. I believe that the current political elites of Armenia do not really want to see him at large - he can be a serious competitor to both Pashinyan and the “Karabakh clan” - Kocharyan and Sargsyan. They say that he had political ambitions - but this is only a crime in Russia. And now he is in the complete power of Aliyev. Whether someone will be interested, it is not clear. Peskov said that he knew nothing about his arrest (that’s why you should always lie - he could say that Vardanyan refused citizenship, so now this is not a problem of Russia?). Business partners are not heard: maybe they are secretly doing something? The Armenian diaspora in Russia is silent. The Armenian Foreign Ministry still made a statement, but this is unlikely to help. And the accusations were charged - for life.
I don’t know how everything will be resolved there - both with Vardanyan and with 120 thousand those who lived in Artsakh. I'm not waiting for anything good. But some reactions with us amaze and horrify me.
More and more often I see statements in support of Azerbaijan: both the territory, they say, is internationally recognized, and the Armenians at one time made a lot of cruelty in relation to the Azerbaijanis. I suspect, it is true that this position is the desire to support the winner, to be on his side. It always happens, the victim, they say, is to blame; In many countries of Europe, after the war, anti -Semitism intensified for a while - precisely as a reaction to the Holocaust.
The argument about international recognition does not convince me too much, I would have resolved all such conflicts not in favor of the states “owning” the territories, but in favor of people with referenda under international control
(real, of course, and not the farce that was arranged by Russia in Crimea), decades of negotiations, as with Scotland, and so on.
As for the Armenian cruelty, although I don’t know about it, I admit and I am even sure that they were: a long-term conflict, which has gone deeper into the centuries, could not but lead to mutual hardening, and therefore to atrocities from both sides. But what does the crimes of Armenians have to do with fictional or real? In Artsakh, there are not those people who, even if they did something terrible 30, 70 or 100 years ago, are others! To consider the then cruelty to the justification of today's genocide (and deportation is genocide) is the same as approving, for example, the lynching of five blacks for the fact that one, incomplete, raped a white woman. Or a Jewish pogrom in a particular place - the soldering of the Russian people or other sins of this evil nation. And after all, the people of our environment are discussing about the cause and even justification of what is happening today! What is the matter with you, gentlemen?
This, alas, is not only here. The Black Lives Matter movement requires repentance from the descendants (!) Of the slave owners. And the most terrible and incomprehensible for me is that part - yes, repents! Something happens to the world.
We must be responsible for your sins, and not for the sins of the ancestors - and each of us has enough of them. Wine - an individual category, retribution in relation to the innocent - not retaliation, but a crime and arbitrariness.
And therefore my solidarity with the Armenians of Artsakh.
