The Armenian parliament ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which issued an arrest warrant for Putin

The Armenian Parliament on Tuesday ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), reports . Interfax

The document was supported by 60 deputies from the ruling Civil Contract faction. 22 deputies from the opposition factions “Armenia” and “I Have the Honor” voted against. Previously, the Constitutional Court of Armenia recognized the Rome Statute as consistent with the country's Constitution.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Armenia's ratification of the Rome Statute of the ICC is unacceptable and will negatively affect bilateral relations.

In mid-March, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin and children's ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. They are accused of illegally deporting Ukrainian children to Russia. It was reported that because of this, Putin and Lvova-Belova will not be able to travel to the territory of countries that recognize the decisions of the International Criminal Court.

Thus, in July it became known that Putin did not go to the BRICS summit in South Africa, which also ratified the Rome Statute and would have been obliged to detain the Russian president. Instead of Putin, Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
