The FSB has proposed requiring Internet services to store geolocation and payment methods of users (in order to have access to them)

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation has proposed expanding the list of data that information dissemination organizers ( IDOs ) are required to store and provide upon request to law enforcement agencies.

The draft resolution, published on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts, proposes adding data on the geolocation of users and means of payment to the list.

“The absence of a legally established obligation to store and provide the specified category of information to the federal security service bodies creates ambiguous law enforcement practices, reduces the effectiveness of operational investigative activities, and has a negative impact on ensuring the security of the Russian Federation,” the document says.

• In July 2023, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree according to which, from September 1, the FSB received round-the-clock remote access to the information systems and databases of taxi ordering services included in the register of information dissemination organizers.
