Thousands of rockets and dozens of terrorists - Hamas attacked Israel

Early on the morning of October 7, the Hamas terrorist group attacked Israel from the air and on the ground, Israeli authorities said. Around 6:30 am, a massive rocket attack began on Israeli cities from the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army reported 2,200 rockets fired into the country.

Several hits are known to hit residential and administrative buildings in cities in the south of the country, in particular Ashkelon and Beersheba. According to authorities, a 60-year-old woman was killed in Hederoth as a result of a direct missile hit on the local administration building. The Israeli Soroka Hospital reports 80 wounded of varying severity.

In addition to firing rockets, Hamas also attacked Israel on the ground. The Israeli army (IDF) announced the infiltration of militants into the country. Local publication Kan News reports dozens of Hamas militants in the town of Netinot, located near the Gaza Strip. Local residents publish videos of shootings on the city streets. In turn, Hamas announced the start of a “military operation” called “Al-Aqsa Storm” in Israel, AlJazeera reports . “This is the day of the greatest battle to end the last occupation on earth,” said Hamas commander Mohammad Deif, calling on all Palestinians to “stand up to Israel.” He also said that five thousand rockets were launched at Israel today. Hamas representatives also claim that they managed to capture one Israeli soldier.

Another terrorist group, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, according to the Jerusalem Post, said its fighters joined Hamas's attack on Israel.

“This morning the terrorist organization Hamas made a serious mistake and launched a war against the State of Israel. IDF soldiers are fighting the enemy in all locations,” said Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. He stressed that “the State of Israel will win this war.”

Later, the IDF announced the launch of the “Iron Swords” military operation in the Gaza Strip. “Dozens of Air Force fighter jets are now attacking targets of the terrorist organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip,” the Israeli army said in a statement.
