Three residents of a nursing home in Izhevsk died after being poisoned by chlorine fumes

The Investigative Committee opened a case on the provision of services that did not meet safety requirements (clause “c” of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code) due to the death of three residents of a boarding house for the elderly in Izhevsk. This was reported by the press service of the department for Udmurtia.

According to investigators, on October 8, an 82-year-old resident dissolved chlorine tablets in water to clean the room. As a result, four elderly women were sent on chlorine fumes. Three of them died, another was hospitalized and is receiving medical care.

“As part of the criminal investigation, the scene of the incident was inspected and witnesses were being questioned. Medical and chemical forensic examinations have been ordered,” the department added.

According to GovoritNeMoskva, the incident occurred at the Lesnoy Khutor boarding house for the elderly, which does not have a medical license. Two years ago, the death of another resident became known. According to Udm -Info , doctors were not called for more than a day for a pensioner with signs of heart failure, and eventually she died. The management of Lesnoy Khutor claimed that the employees themselves tried to help the elderly woman.

In Russia, nursing homes often operate illegally - without medical licenses and with unqualified staff. In addition, they do not comply with safety measures for elderly guests. The most common cause of mass death of guests of such establishments is fires.

Over the past few years alone, dozens of elderly people have died: seven people died also died in Tyumen, 11 residents of a nursing home in Bashkiria in a fire, and 12 elderly people died in a Krasnogorsk boarding house . Another 20 residents of such an institution died in Kemerovo.
