Ismailov was detained on January 24 last year, when he greeted the founder of the Chernovik publication, Magdi Kamalov, while passing by. At that moment, Kamalov was holding a picket in support of Chernovik journalist Abdulmumin Gadzhiev; he was detained along with Ismailov, considering them “accomplices.” The detainees were taken to the police department in the Sovetsky district.
Earlier, the Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala declared illegal the actions of police officer Karakhanov, who detained Ismailov, but he did not apologize to the lawyer as required by the Law “On Police”. Ismailov demanded that Karakhanov be obliged to apologize, but in a response letter from the Ministry of Internal Affairs they said that “the information presented was not confirmed.” The court ordered the security officer to apologize in writing to Ismailov. The lawyer also demanded that the response of the Ministry of Internal Affairs be declared illegal, but the court found no grounds for satisfying this demand.
In January last year, the Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala awarded Ismailov one kopeck as compensation for moral damage due to a fine under the “rally” article (Part 6.1 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offences) in 2019 due to the May Day monster. Ismailov was at the meeting site, but did not intend to take part in it. Later the case was closed and the fine was cancelled .
