Stockholm prohibits the entry of cars on gasoline and diesel to the city center since 2025

Stockholm will be the first large metropolitan city, where it is forbidden to enter cars with gasoline and diesel engines. The decision to introduce a ban since 2025 was announced by the Vice-mayor on transport and the urban environment Lars Stromgren (Green Party). He motivated this with concern for the health of the townspeople and the need to reduce emissions in order to influence the global climate change.

Entrance to the city center will be open only for electric cars, vans with hybrid engines, mopeds and motorcycles. The exception will be made for police, ambulance, as well as vehicles with disabilities. A violator is facing a fine of 1000 kroons ($ 91).

The Green Party plans to further expand the prohibition on other areas of the city. The decision to expand the ban on the ban will be made in the first half of 2025.
