Israeli airline El Al will fly on Shabbat for the first time since 1982 to bring reservists into the country.

Israeli airline El Al announced that it will operate flights on the Jewish Sabbath, Saturday, for the first time since 1982, the Times of Israel reports .

The airline clarified that we are talking about two free flights from New York and Bangkok, on which Israeli reservists will be able to return to their homeland. El Al said the airline itself will pay for the flights together with major US financial institutions.

Typically, Israeli airline El Al does not fly on Saturdays because Jewish religious rules prohibit travel on the Sabbath. This time, as El Al noted, the company received permission to operate flights on the Sabbath from the clergy, since the Jewish canon provides for an exception - travel on the Sabbath is possible if it is necessary to save lives.
