In the Stavropol Territory, two residents of Dagestan, Islam Bekuev and Karim Daitumov, were sentenced to a penal colony under the article on desecration of symbols of Russia’s military glory committed by a group of people (Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code). This was reported on the website of the regional Investigative Committee.
The Stavropol Regional Court sentenced one of the men to one year and six months in a colony-settlement, and to the other two years.
According to investigators, on May 5, the defendants “while on the Walk of Fame in the city park of Neftekumsk, Neftekumsk urban district, desecrated a cultural heritage site of regional significance, the Monument of Eternal Glory.”
The detention of “28-year-old Islam” and “31-year-old Karim” became known in the first half of May. According to the Baza telegram channel, one of them put his foot on the pedestal of the bowl of the Eternal Flame, and the second urinated on the fire itself. They were detained on the same day, at first the men were given administrative arrest, and subsequently a criminal case was opened. They were later sent into custody.
