Maxim Bogdanov is a peasant son from the village of Borki of the Tyumen district of the Tobolsk province. He graduated from three classes of a rural school, worked in his household. Married. In 1924, when he was 39 years old, he began to serve in the temple as a psalmist.
In 1928, he was ordained a priest and served in a temple in the village of Bugurtt of the Kuraginsky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
After the organization in the early 1930s of collective farms of the authorities from the sole-people who did not enter the collective farm began to demand that they completely plant the land allotted by them, but only grain crops recommended by the authorities themselves. Semen peasants were supposed to buy at their own expense. According to the experience of past years, the peasants knew that no matter how much this, in the fall, the authorities would take almost the entire crop, there would be little to remain to be food and nothing would remain for sowing for the next year - and they would again have to buy seeds at their own expense and almost always on debt. Due to the lack of seeds, some of the peasants in the village of Bugurt refused to sow the fields in the spring of 1933, and the employees of the district department of the OGPU, regarding this as an anti-state conspiracy, decided to arrest them and the priest.
On April 16, 1933, Father Maxim and five peasants were arrested and imprisoned in a district prison. The peasants confirmed that they refused the sowing assigned to the sole -shaped, and signed under the protocols of testimony in which it was said that their actions were led by a parish priest and that Father Maxim said to them: “You will recall the old time for a long time: the people lived well, it was in abundance, every decent man had a herd of livestock full of bins of bread. And now you look at life - the sad picture turns out: the peasants were wound, they are imposed on overwhelming taxes, all “give” all and endlessly. Now they are thoroughly pressed for sowing, but you need to think that Mother Earth will give birth to bread once a year, and bakery requires several times. ”
All the arrested peasants pleaded guilty, and only the priest to the question whether he pleads guilty, categorically replied that he did not plead guilty. A confrontation of a priest with one of the witnesses was arranged, but even then Father Maxim firmly said that he did not admit himself to be guilty, "since he did not do such things."
On May 13, 1933, the special three of the permanent representative office of the OGPU Zapsibkrai sentenced the peasants to five years in prison in a correctional labor camp, and the priest, as the “head of the counter-revolutionary group”, by ten years. They were sent by a stage in Minusinsk and here, having built a sentence in front of the gates of the camp.
In February 1938, he was arrested in the Dallag of the NKVD along with a group of clergy, they were transported to prison of Blagoveshchensk. He took place according to the group “The case of Archbishop Onufry (Gagalyuk) and others Blagoveshchensk, 1938”
