A criminal case was opened against the author of “Masyanya”

Investigators in St. Petersburg opened a criminal case against the author of the animated series “Masyanya” Oleg Kuvaev. He is accused of “public calls for activities directed against the security of the state” (Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), TASS reports .

“We confirm the fact that a criminal case has been initiated under Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” a representative of the press service of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for St. Petersburg told the agency.

Oleg Kuvaev himself told TASS that he had not received notification of the initiation of a criminal case against him. He is now outside Russia.

Earlier today, the Mash telegram channel on Moika reported that a criminal case had been opened against Kuvaev because of a video on YouTube. According to the channel, the security forces were interested in an episode of the animated series, at the end of which the main character calls on the Russian military to surrender using the “I want to live” website, created with the support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
