Покинули нас и на славу фехтовавшие грузин Владимир Апциаури и уфимец Анвар Ибрагимов. В командной рапире вместе с Борисом Корецким из Донецкой области, бакинцем Ильгаром Мамедовым и сахалинцем Александром Романьковым они закололи в главной дуэли немцев. Мамедов является сегодня президентом Федерации фехтования России, а Корецкий и Романьков тренируют национальную сборную Беларуси.

Но в пятом отрезке все болельщики «дожимали» валидол при каждом переходе мяча. «Скачки» счета у меня и сейчас перед глазами: 10:10, 12:12, 14:14. Потом 15:14 в пользу перуанок. Смотреть дальше не хотелось… Но не дрогнули наши женщины. Сравняли, а затем вколотили два золотых гвоздя — 17:15! И Карполя подкидывали в воздух вот эти героини: Марина Никулина (умерла в 2015-м), Ирина Пархомчук, Ирина Смирнова, Татьяна Сидоренко, Елена Овчинникова, Елена Волкова, Ольга Кривошеева, Ольга Шкурнова, Марина Кумыш, Светлана Корытова, Валентина Огиенко и Татьяна Крайнова. Через несколько дней после победы Таня примет участие в съемках полуфинала КВН, где вручит приз за «самый весомый вклад в победу команды» тогдашнему студенту МГУ Алексею Кортневу…

А какому баскетболисту сборной СССР вручить подобную награду за сеульский подвиг? Американцы мечтали взять реванш за 1972-й год. И в полуфинале они считались фаворитами. Но родоначальники игры, в составе которых выделялся Дэвид Робинсон (будущая суперзвезда НБА), продули нашей дружине по делу и без всяких судейских штучек — 76:82. Жаль, что так же по делу наши волейболисты уступили в финале представителям Нового света…

В решающей же оранжевой битве пришлось схлестнуться с югославами. Молодые Владе Дивац, Тони Кукоч, Дражен Петрович, Желько Обрадович — тоже своеобразный дрим-тим. Но и им шустрые великаны Александра Яковлевича Гомельского (умер в 2005-м) накидали полную корзину — 76:63. Помню имена и фамилии тех волшебников наизусть: Арвидас Сабонис, Римас Куртинайтис, Шарунас Марчюленис, Вальдемарас Хомичюс, Тийт Сокк, Игорс Миглиниекс, Александр Волков, Валерий Тихоненко, Сергей Тараканов, Александр Белостенный (умер в 2010-м от рака легкого, похоронен в Трире), Валерий Гоборов (через год после Игр погибнет в автокатастрофе на площади Гагарина в Москве), Виктор Панкрашкин (в 35 лет умрет от туберкулеза).

А вот кусочек смешных воспоминаний от Римаса Куртинайтиса о той легендарной победе: «Возвращаемся мы в олимпийскую деревню, и откуда-то берется алкоголь… Лично я выпил много джин-тоника и уснул абсолютно пьяным. А еще помню, что Хомичюс сбрил усы, а Тараканов — отказался, хоть и обещал проделать эту процедуру в случае успеха. Сказал, что жена ему этого не простит…»

Что сбривали наши футболисты — писать не буду. Но финтили они страстно и классно. Правда, в дебютном поединке не удалось взгреть корейцев (0:0), но затем питомцы 43-летнего Анатолия Бышовца встрепенулись и всегда находили пути к воротам оппонентов. Аргентину одолели со счетом 2:1, а затем разгромили американцев (4:2) и вышли в 1/4 финала, где проехались катком по австралийцам (3:0). В полуфинале дернули итальянцев (3:2). Дуэль с бразильцами получилась нервной. Кудесники мяча без проблем выиграли первый тайм, но творили в целом расслабленно, не включая инстинкт убийцы. И поплатились. Наши воспользовались расточительностью «банды» во главе с Ромарио и Бебето и наказали их. Сольный проход Алексея Михайличенко завершился падением в штрафной (не по собственной воле) и назначением пенальти. Игорь Добровольский технично развел круглый снаряд и Тафферела по разным углам. 35 лет прошло, а как будто вчера это было. О каждом из той сборной (Лютый, Скляров, Татарчук, Горлукович, Пономарев, Кеташвили, Янонис, Фокин, Яровенко, Бородюк, Нарбековас, Чередник, Лосев, Кузнецов, Михайличенко, Добровольский, Савичев, Харин, Прудников) уже написано столько, что повторяться не вижу причин. Но замечу, что нет с нами лишь мужественного Вадима Тищенко (он скоропостижно скончался в 2015-м). Бышовец включил его в состав команды, невзирая на то, что полузащитник не до конца оправился от травмы колена, но на поле в Сеуле самоотверженного и готового биться футболиста «Днепра» так и не выпустил… Спустя годы Анатолий Федорович признается, что люди «сверху» просили его перестраховаться: мол, колено Вадима лечили препаратами, которые по олимпийским меркам якобы были нелегальными…

Ну а потом случилось легальное и красочное закрытие Игр, прошедших под лозунгом «Гармония и прогресс». Из воздушного шара выбежали талисман корейской Олимпиады Ходори и символ будущих Игр Коби. Надпись на дирижабле гласила: «Увидимся в Барселоне». И мы, конечно, увиделись. Вот только наша сборная, как и страна, была уже абсолютно другой.

…В 1990 году прибалтийские республики друг за другом приняли декларации о независимости и отделились от Советского Союза. Естественно, спортивное начальство в Вильнюсе, Риге и Таллине решило прекратить свое участие в чемпионатах СССР и запретило своим атлетам входить в составы советских сборных команд. В свою очередь, исполком МОК в сентябре 1991-го восстановил в олимпийском движении Эстонию, Литву и Латвию и пригласил их на летние и зимние Игры-92 в самостоятельном статусе.

Президент Хуан Антонио Самаранч ратовал за то, чтобы в будущем все бывшие союзные республики, ставшие независимыми государствами, также вступили в МОК.

Но поставил условие: на Олимпиадах в Альбервилле и Барселоне Советский Союз должен был выступить Объединенной командой (за исключением прибалтийских стран). Тогда в январе 1992-го Борис Ельцин лично принял Самаранча в Кремле. И по итогам переговоров, а также после положительной отмашки чиновников на февральской сессии МОК в снежную Францию отправилась «сплоченная» дружина под названием EUN.
