Former editor-in-chief of the Soviet Fashion Magazine Lidia Orlova has died

Soviet and Russian journalist Lidiya Orlova died at the age of 87, RBC reports citing her close friend Irina Lobacheva.

Orlova was born in 1936 in Orenburg, and graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University in 1960. In 1970, she became the editor of the “Home Kaleidoscope” section in the Rabotnitsa magazine, and in 1986, the editor-in-chief of the Fashion Magazine.

Under her leadership, the concept of the Fashion Magazine changed; they began publishing articles and interviews, as well as reports from Paris Fashion Week and their own photo shoots. The publication's circulation increased to one million copies. Orlova worked for the publication until 1991, after which she and her team left it and founded an independent fashion newspaper, Moscow Style. In 1996-1997, Orlova worked as editor-in-chief of the “Collection-M” magazine about Western fashion.

Orlova is the author of the books “Family, House, Apartment”, “We and Fashion”, “The ABC of Fashion”. Since 2014, Orlova has given lectures on the history of Soviet fashion at the journalism department of Moscow State University.
