The former head of Navalny's Ufa headquarters, Liliya Chanysheva, was placed on preventive registration in pre-trial detention center-5 in Dyurtyuli (Bashkortostan). She spoke about this in her letter, which was published by the Telegram channel of Chanysheva’s support group.
The detention center staff explained this decision by saying that the activist is “prone to committing crimes of a terrorist nature and extremist nature.” Chanysheva noted that she did not commit any offenses while in prison.
“I began to object that in the Ufa pre-trial detention center they did not put me on such a register. But the answer was surprising: supposedly in my personal file there is a corresponding protocol from pre-trial detention center No. 1. That is, I was not invited to the commission and was not notified of anything, but they put me on the register,” writes Chanysheva.
The prisoner asked to provide her with the materials according to which she was registered, but the prison staff refused.
The transfer of Chanysheva to the Durtyulinsky pre-trial detention center, which is located 120 kilometers from Ufa, became known in the first half of October. Navalny's former chief of staff regularly complains about violations in the detention center. So, in the pre-trial detention center there is no shower, and she has to use a ladle and basin. The woman is not given all the gear and is not allowed to use her orthopedic slippers because they contain magnets. In addition, she was prohibited from making calls.
In June, the Kirovsky District Court sentenced Liliya Chanysheva to seven and a half years in prison under the article on creating an extremist community and/or participating in it using her official position (Part 3 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code). She was also given a fine of 400 thousand rubles, a seven-year ban on administering websites, holding and attending public events, and two years of restriction of freedom after serving her sentence. Due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, the woman was released from punishment under articles on public calls for extremist activities (Part 1 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code) and participation in the activities of NGOs that infringe on the personality and rights of citizens (Part 3 of Article 239 of the Criminal Code).
Chanysheva was detained in November 2021. At first, the activist was in a pre-trial detention center in Ufa, but then she was transferred to Moscow, since her case was being investigated by the Central Office of the Investigative Committee. In the summer of 2022, it became known that she was prohibited from making phone calls and visiting her parents and husband for several months. In February 2023, the woman was transported back to Ufa to participate in court hearings.
- On June 9, 2021, the Moscow City Court recognized the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens' Rights (FZPG) and the headquarters of Alexei Navalny as extremist organizations. An appeals court later upheld this decision. After this, supporters of the opposition politician began to leave Russia en masse.
- At the end of September 2021, the Investigative Committee announced that a case had been opened against Navalny and his associates, as well as other activists, regarding an extremist community (Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code). Later it became known that several other cases filed earlier against the politician and several key figures in his structures were added to this case. Currently, within the framework of one case, in addition to the article on the extremist community, there are also articles on the financing of extremist activities (Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code), on the legalization of funds acquired by other persons through criminal means (clause “b” of Part 4 Article 174 of the Criminal Code), on the creation of a non-profit organization that infringes on the personality and rights of citizens (Part 2 of Article 239 of the Criminal Code) and on the involvement of minors in dangerous activities (paragraphs “a”, “c” of Part 2 of Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code) ). In August 2023, Navalny was sentenced to 19 years in a special regime colony.
- As part of the case about an extremist community, in January, ex-employees of Navalny’s headquarters in Arkhangelsk, Yegor Butakov and Elizaveta Bychkova, were sentenced to a year of restriction of freedom. In July, the former coordinator of the headquarters in Barnaul, Vadim Ostanin, was sentenced to nine years in a general regime colony. In August, the former technical director of Navalny LIVE, Daniel Kholodny, was sentenced to eight years in a general regime colony. In October 2022, a volunteer of this headquarters, Olga Shkolina, was arrested in absentia - she left the country in the summer. In addition, in December of the same year, the former coordinator of Navalny’s Irkutsk headquarters, Zakhar Sarapulov, was sentenced to a year of suspended imprisonment.
