At the “Return of Names” shares in Vilnius, a parallel was drawn between victims of great terror and political prisoners of “Putin Russia”

The “Return of Names” campaign was held in Vilnius on October 29 for the second time. As in 2022, it was organized by anti -war activists who moved to Lithuania after the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

More than 100 people gathered near the museum of occupation and the struggle for freedom, in the building of which the KGB used to be located. Participants read more than 300 names killed during great terror.

The focus of the action still remained victims of the Stalinist repressions, but modern political prisoners were added to them this year, one of the organizers of the action Marina Skorikova said.

- The peculiarity of this action that we decided to recall not only the victims of the Soviet terror, but also talk about those political prisoners that are now included in the lists. Plus, we said about prisoners who do not fall into the lists of Memorial. And we also read the letters of modern political prisoners, ”Skorikova commented.

The Memorial organized an online broadcast on YouTube, during which people from different cities read the names of the repressed and told the stories of some of them. Fragments of the action from Vilnius also fell into the broadcast.
