Yuri, the father of FBK director Ivan Zhdanov, was released from IK-14 in Velsk. The man wrote about this on his Instagram.
At the end of 2021, Yuri Zhdanov was sentenced to three years in prison under articles on official forgery (Article 292 of the Criminal Code) and fraud on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code). According to the investigation, he, being a member of the housing commission, recommended the head of the village of Iskateley to allocate an apartment to a local resident under a social tenancy agreement. Initially, the sentence was suspended, in February 2022, the punishment was replaced by real imprisonment. The man was in a pre-trial detention center since March 2021, a year later he was transferred to a penal colony.
In June of this year, a blade was planted in Zhdanov's pillowcase. Because of this, he was placed in a punishment cell, and later assigned three years of administrative supervision after his release from the colony. " The support of numerous friends from outside helped me get through all the trials. Daily letters from people who were close to me in their views and worldview became a real spiritual stronghold for me, which I could rely on at any moment," the man said after his release.
Ivan Zhdanov has repeatedly stated that the case against his father is being used by Russian authorities as a way to put pressure on him. The politician himself has faced persecution due to his work with Alexei Navalny and lives outside of Russia. In the winter of 2022, he was added to the list of terrorists and extremists.
- In June 2021, the Moscow City Court recognized the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), the Citizens' Rights Protection Foundation (CRPF), and Alexei Navalny's headquarters as extremist organizations.
