Participants in anti-Semitic pogrom at Makhachkala airport sent to administrative arrest for “using obscene language”

Dagestani district courts have begun publishing the texts of the first rulings on administrative violations against participants in the pogrom at the Makhachkala airport on the night of October 30. Mediazona drew attention to them.

As the publication notes, on October 31, the press service of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, when talking about punishments for pogroms, referred to the decisions of the Soviet District Court of Makhachkala. Journalists found 15 such cases in the court's database, received on October 31 and November 1. The Supreme Court of the republic also reported on 15 participants in the riots who were sent under administrative arrest.

In all cases, Mediazona notes, the case concerns Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation — petty hooliganism, although some of the cases are listed on the court's website under the article on disobeying the police (19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). Journalists noted that the decisions are similar, and quoted a phrase repeated in them:

FULL NAME1 at 03:15 on DD.MM.YYYYy, while in a public place, at <address> "B" , used foul language, behaved aggressively, did not respond to warnings to stop illegal actions, thereby disobeying the lawful demands of a police officer.

In addition to cases of hooliganism and disobedience, 82 protocols under Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses — on violating the procedure for holding a rally — have been filed in Dagestan courts since October 30. 56 of them were filed at a court near the Makhachkala airport. In addition, Mediazona notes that repeat protocols have already begun to be drawn up against those detained after the pogrom.

• On October 29, hundreds of people stormed the Makhachkala airport after social media posts about “refugees from Israel” arriving on a flight from Tel Aviv. They waved Palestinian flags and shouted anti-Semitic slogans, and checked cars leaving the airport for Jews. They soon stormed the airfield and tried to find the plane that had arrived from Tel Aviv.
• A day after the pogrom, 83 people were detained for participating in anti-Semitic riots, the Interior Ministry reported . The Investigative Committee for Dagestan opened a criminal case under the article on mass riots. The agency claimed to have identified more than 20 suspects. Russian authorities accused the West and Ukraine of organizing the pogrom.
