An armed man who drove onto the runway at Hamburg Airport on the evening of November 4 surrendered to the authorities after 18 hours of negotiations, Bild and the police press service reported .
The police said that the man was detained without resistance. His four-year-old daughter, who was in the car the entire time, was not injured.
According to Bild, 35-year-old Salman E. kidnapped his daughter from his ex-wife and then drove with her to the airport, likely over a custody dispute.
Having broken through the security barrier into the airport at around 20:12, the man stopped near the Turkish Airlines plane. He demanded that he and his daughter be allowed to fly to Turkey. It was also reported that the man, while on the airport premises, fired several shots and threw two burning bottles.
The airport press service reported that they are working on resuming flights as soon as possible.
