The creator of a project about victims of political repression left Russia due to detention and surveillance

The founder of the “Immortal Barracks” project, Andrei Shalaev, told the telegram channel “NeMoskva Says” that he left Russia. He explained his decision by detention and surveillance.

On October 21, the “Immortal Barracks” project reported that Shalaev had disappeared and was not in touch. Later it turned out that he was detained in Tver, where he came to give a tour of the execution grounds for French journalists. Shalaev said that his parents and lawyer were forced to put him on the wanted list because the police did not tell them where he was.

“I spent two days in the Central Department of Internal Affairs of the city, where they simply did not give me water. I couldn’t tell my family or my lawyer about my whereabouts,” Shalaev said. When he returned to Moscow, he “felt that he was being followed.”

“I decided to leave the country in order, first of all, to save the project and myself. At the station, when I left Russia, NOD activists accompanied me, with St. George ribbons, the letters Z, and filming on their phones. And also with provocations and cries of “traitor and enemy of the people,” Shalaev noted. According to him, the employees of the Immortal Barracks project are no longer in Russia.
