
The Riga City Court appointed 8.5 years in the case of espionage to the former deputy of the Sejm and ex-head of the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs, Janis Adamns, the second convicted person-the former KGB officer Gennady Silonov-received 7.5 years, reports LSM.
According to the court, Adamns "purposefully collected closed information" and transmitted the FSB through Silonov. We are talking about "the work of Latvian state institutions, law enforcement agencies and state security bodies, as well as on the state defense system." Adamns was also accused of fraud and illegal storage of firearms.
Both convicts did not admit guilt, they are going to appeal the verdict.
After the detention of Adamns in 2021, the General Prosecutor's Office of Latvia appealed to the deputies of the Sejm with a request to allow the criminal case against him. 60 politicians answered positively, 18 - negatively.
Adamns in the years of the USSR served in the Navy. In 1992, he returned to Latvia, was approved by the deputy commander of the naval forces of Latvia.
