Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska has withdrawn his lawsuit against journalist Elizaveta Osetinskaya. this TASS reports with reference to Deripaska's lawyer Alexei Melnikov.
The reason for the lawsuit was an interview with human rights activist Olga Romanova, which she gave to the project “This is Ossetian” in May 2023. In it, Romanova says that the businessman has two PMCs. Deripaska demanded that this information be recognized as false and discrediting his reputation.
According to Melnikov, the lawsuit against Osetinskaya was withdrawn after she removed the disputed fragments from the interview. “Previously, we asked to establish a judicial penalty if she does not do this voluntarily. I think the threat of payment and the possible imposition of legal costs influenced the defendant’s position,” the lawyer said.
At the same time, according to him, the claims against Romanova have been expanded. “Now we also dispute her words in an interview with journalist Gordeeva. We ask the court to recognize the information as untrue and oblige Romanova to publish a refutation on her Twitter account, as well as impose a court fine on her if she does not do this voluntarily,” the lawyer explained. The hearing on the claim will take place on December 6.
