Putin approved the amendments to the law on the presidential election. What entered them?

On Tuesday, November 14, Vladimir Putin signed a law that changes the processes of elections of the President of the Russian Federation. The document was published on the official portal of legal information.

What will change:

• At the meetings of the election commission will only be allowed by those representatives of the media who have an employment contract;
• Conduct photo and video shooting in polling stations only those who "have the right to its implementation." In military units, these are representatives of accredited media in agreement with the commander of the military unit;
• In subjects with military provisions, voting is possible after consulting the CEC from the Ministry of Defense, the FSB and the heads of these regions;
• The maximum cost of the manufacture of campaign materials should be 2 % of the living wage per capita in Russia per unit of products (now it is 100 rubles);
• If the registered candidate has a criminal record, he will be obliged to submit information about this in writing to the election commission registered by him;
• If a person has an administrative punishment, then he cannot become a member of the election commission with the right of advisory vote for the term of the punishment appointed to him;
• In the voting room, places for observers and media representatives should be determined;
• For voting sections abroad, the election time can be changed by decision of the leadership of the diplomatic mission, if there is a threat to the life and health of citizens.

The presidential election is expected in March 2024. The Federation Council must announce their appointment from December 8 to 18, 2023.

Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov explained the need to amend the law on elections by the fact that there was a “special situation”, including in the “new regions” of Russia-annexed LPR, the DPR, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions.
