The Ministry of Education and Science sent letters to universities with a request to transfer information about all students and teachers who participated in international scientific events in 2023. About this writes "We can explain."

The collection of lists of participants in all international scientific events for 2023, in Russia and abroad, began on November 9. Fill out “detailed information about the contingent of the participants”, the names of all the gathered, their status, the country where their interlocutors came until December 22, “we can explain”.
The source of the publication in the Ministry of Education and Science told reporters that accounting for international events was kept before, but not so closely.
“In the past, I had to solve such problems, but for the first time I encounter sophomic lists on such a scale. I am sure that tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people will be on these lists - teachers, students, experts. All speakers, definitely, should be on the list, ”he said.
He called the reason for the increased control. In his opinion, lists may be needed for verification for “inappropriate contacts”, and to introduce restrictions on exit. Another possible reason is the recruitment of new agents from the scientific environment in the special services, said the Ministry of Education and Science.
“This is an unlucking classic of Soviet practice, when it is sent by students for illegal work for illegal work undercover or immediately after”,
He said.
