Crimean Tatar journalist Timur Ibragimov, sentenced to 17 years in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case, needs to have his eye implant replaced. This was reported by Crimean Solidarity with reference to the prisoner’s wife Dilyara Ibragimova, who visited him in the colony.
Previously, a man complained of deteriorating vision in colony No. 5 in the village of Klekotki, Ryazan region. Ibragimov has a third group of vision disabilities; one of his eyes was replaced with an artificial one more than 15 years ago.
The ophthalmologist, who came for the first time during the year and a half of Ibragimov’s detention in the colony, noted that the implant needed to be replaced. However, given the prisoner’s situation, he recommended “at least taking the medications that were prescribed to him.”
“There are no replacement options at the moment, since this is a colony. What kind of help they will provide in such conditions is unclear. Therefore, for now everything remains as it is. He was examined by an ophthalmologist in the colony, who prescribed treatment in the form of medicines, drops and vitamins,” said the journalist’s wife.
The second Bakhchisaray Hizb ut-Tahrir case, in which Ibragimov is involved, was opened in October 2017. Most of the defendants in this case are activists of Crimean Solidarity, a social movement created in support of the persecuted Crimean Tatars.
On September 16, 2020, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Timur Ibragimov to 17 years in a maximum security colony. He was found guilty under the article on organizing the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code).
Other defendants in the case, Server Mustafayev, Marlen Asanov, Memet Belyalov, Server Zekiryaev, Seyran Saliev and Edem Smailov, were given sentences ranging from 13 to 19 years. Another defendant was acquitted.
The Memorial Human Rights Center recognized the defendants in the second Bakhchisarai case of Hizb ut-Tahrir as political prisoners.
