Security forces beat 61-year-old ex-deputy from Glazov Andrei Yedigarev in the face, stomach and groin, and also threw him face down in the dirt during his arrest in May. This is reported by SOTA and “That’s So” .
The pensioner was detained on the way to the store on May 8 and on the same day he was sent to pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Izhevsk. For two months it was unknown what crime he was charged with. In June, Udmurt oppositionist Vasily Kryukov was able to send a lawyer to Yedigarev, who gave him a note with information about the case.
It turned out that Edigarev was being persecuted under the article on public justification of terrorism on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code) because of posts on Facebook. Which ones exactly are unknown. The man admitted guilt in this case, writes SOTA.
In addition, they are trying to initiate a case against the pensioner under the article on cooperation on a confidential basis with a foreign state or organization (Article 275.1 of the Criminal Code ). As SOTA suggests, we may be talking about the “Congress of People’s Deputies” of ex-State Duma deputy Ilya Ponamarev. In 2022, the man took part in two congresses, one of them in person, after which he returned to Russia. Because of this, in the summer, Edigarev was regularly interrogated by FSB officers. Before this, he was forcibly given injections of the antidepressant amitriptyline.
As the man’s common-law wife Anastasia Seliverstova told SOTA, by November his conditions of detention had improved. Among other things, Edigarev was no longer regularly interrogated by FSB officers, and he was also no longer forcibly administered drugs. At the same time, letters began to be delayed for the pensioner and the Prison Bulletin was stopped.
It also became known that until mid-October, Yedigarev was defended by an appointed lawyer, although he asked to find another defender. His relatives asked Ilya Ponomarev to provide legal assistance, but his assistant claimed that there was a lawyer in his case. It later turned out that the person in question was a court-appointed lawyer. In October, Seliverstova found a lawyer, and took out a loan to pay for his services.
On November 3, the man’s detention was once again extended. The pensioner’s defense asked to be transferred to house arrest for health reasons. The politician has been diagnosed with chronic diseases - hypertension and atherosclerosis, which is why he suffers from high blood pressure. The court sent Yedigarev for examination at the hospital in a pre-trial detention center. He will stay there until November 22, after which the court will again consider the issue of preventive measures.
Andrey Yedigarev is a former deputy of the Glazov City Duma. On May 15, Rosfinmonitoring included Edigarev in the list of persons involved in extremism and terrorism. At the end of May it became known that a criminal case had been opened against him.
