Truce in Gaza extended for another day

The truce in Gaza has been extended for another day. This was reported by the Times of Israel with reference to the Office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They clarified that the extension of the pause in hostilities in the Palestinian enclave is due to the continuation of negotiations on the release of hostages captured by Hamas.

The extension of the pause in hostilities was also confirmed by Hamas. At the same time, the group’s leadership claims that Israel refused to accept seven women and children from among the hostages and the bodies of three dead in exchange for an extension of the truce.

The day before, Palestinian militants freed two more hostages with Russian citizenship - 50-year-old Elena Trufanova and her 73-year-old mother Irina Tatti.

“In response to the efforts of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hamas released two Russians and handed them over in the evening to the International Committee of the Red Cross. The two Russians will be sent to representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” said a message on the Hamas telegram channel.

The truce in Gaza began on November 24 after representatives of Israel and Hamas, through the mediation of the Qatari Foreign Ministry, were able to agree on a pause in fighting in Gaza and the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons in exchange for hostages taken by Hamas during the attack on Israel on October 7.

Under the terms of the original agreement, Israel was to cease fighting in Gaza for four days and release 150 Palestinian prisoners in its prisons, in exchange Hamas promised to release 50 hostages. Since then, the truce has been extended twice. According to the latest data, during this time Hamas released 61 Israelis and 25 foreigners.
