The G7 countries have agreed on the gradual introduction of restrictions on the import of Russian diamonds, according to a statement from the G7 countries published on the UK government website.
According to the statement, the restriction on the import of diamonds mined or processed in Russia will come into force on January 1, 2024. At the same time, the ban on the import of Russian diamonds processed in third countries will gradually come into force on March 1, 2024. By September, G7 countries expect to have a mechanism for testing and certifying rough diamonds in place.
It is noted that the ban will not affect diamonds for industrial use.
