Earlier this week, the White House warned that aid money for Ukraine was running out. “Today’s vote will be remembered for a long time. And history will judge harshly those who turned their backs on the cause of freedom. We cannot let Putin win,” US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday.
The day before, the head of the Office of the Ukrainian President, Andriy Ermak , said that due to the delay in US military assistance, Kiev could lose the war. “This will make it impossible to continue efforts to liberate [Ukrainian territories] and create a great risk of losing this war,” he said, speaking in Washington.
Ermak also noted that the Ukrainian authorities have a military action plan for the next year. However, according to him, in 2024 the Ukrainian government expects a budget deficit of $43 billion.
In mid-November, American President Joe Biden signed a bill to temporarily finance the government. This document does not provide for the allocation of assistance to Israel and Ukraine. This decision was necessary in order to avoid a shutdown - stopping the work of the federal government.
Prior to this, the Biden administration asked Congress to approve $106 billion in aid to Ukraine and Israel. However, Republicans, who now control the House of Representatives, approved only the allocation of money to Israel, but not to Ukraine. After this, Democrats blocked the document in the Senate. The next meeting of senators on this issue will take place only next week. Republicans said they would go on vacation after that.
