The flow of Finnish citizens at the checkpoint in Ivangorod has increased four and a half times in two weeks - “Paper”

The flow of Finnish citizens at the checkpoint between Ivangorod and Estonian Narva has increased four and a half times over the past two weeks. This happened after four border checkpoints between Russia and Finland were closed on November 18. This was reported by “Paper” with reference to the Estonian Border Service.

According to the publication, after the closure of Finnish checkpoints, residents of Finland began traveling to Russia and back through Estonia. If from November 6 to November 19 they crossed the Estonian border 126 times, then from November 24 to December 5 - 592 times.

Estonian border guards also told Paper that from November 20 to December 3, they accepted 104 applications for international protection status at all checkpoints. Most of them - 95 - came from citizens of Ukraine. Two more applications were submitted by Russians.

On the night of November 18, Finland closed the four largest checkpoints on the border with Russia, and by November 30 it suspended the work of all its border crossings there. Finnish authorities explained this by the influx of illegal migrants and asylum seekers arriving from the Russian side.

In early December, Estonian authorities warned about the possible closure of the border with Russia.
