The IOC allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the Olympics in Paris under a neutral flag

The International Olympic Committee has cleared individual Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the Summer Olympics in Paris in 2024. They will be able to perform in a neutral status, according to the organization’s website.

The press release states that among the 4,600 athletes from around the world who qualified, 11 individual players in neutral status were allowed to compete - eight from Russia and three from Belarus. At the same time, 60 Ukrainians qualified for the Olympics, the IOC notes.

The condition for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes was their lack of active support for the war in Ukraine, as well as their lack of contracts with the Russian or Belarusian military and national security agencies.

The participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in team competitions is still prohibited. The symbols of these two countries will not be shown at the Olympics, and officials from Russia and Belarus will not be able to attend the games.

In October, the IOC suspended the Russian Olympic Committee from participating in its work “until further notice.”
