The Moscow Department of Media and Advertising has prohibited billboard owners from placing advertisements with QR codes on them. This was reported by Sota and RBC , which were in possession of a fax sent out by the department.
“Placing a QR code that works as a link to an Internet resource containing various content that can be changed may contain information that violates the Federal Law “On Advertising,” the letter says.
The press service of the largest outdoor advertising operator Russ RBC confirmed receipt of such an order. “Taking into account the increase in hacker attacks, attempts to hack systems, redirection and falsification of QR codes on already posted layouts, we consider such recommendations to be legitimate,” the company said.
On December 7, Alexei Navalny’s team talked about installing “Russia, Happy New Year” banners in several Russian cities. They depict QR codes that lead to the website of the “Russia without Putin” initiative.
