The prosecutor's office appealed the verdict against sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky and asked that he be given actual imprisonment. this TASS reports with reference to the press service of the 2nd Western District Military Court.

On December 12, the 2nd Western District Military Court, at an off-site hearing in Syktyvkar, sentenced Kagarlitsky to a fine of 600 thousand rubles in the case of justifying terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). The sociologist and editor-in-chief of the Rabkor magazine was released in the courtroom. The prosecution requested five and a half years in prison for him.

A criminal case against Kagarlitsky was opened in the summer of 2023. On July 26 he was placed in a pre-trial detention center. The reason for the persecution was a video that a sociologist recorded after the explosion on the Crimean Bridge in October 2022. The prosecutor's office argued that the video contained "signs of support for the practice of explosions as a solution to the issue of ending the special operation."

In May 2022, the Ministry of Justice added Kagarlitsky to the register of “foreign agents”. In August 2023, he was included in the list of “terrorists and extremists” of Rosfinmonitoring.
