IDF finds bodies of five hostages in Gaza

Israeli army (IDF) soldiers discovered the bodies of five hostages in the Gaza Strip. This was announced by IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.

According to him, three of the dead hostages were captured Israeli military personnel, and two more were civilians. Earlier, the Israeli Prime Minister announced that the IDF would expand military operations in the Gaza Strip. “This is the only way to return our abductees, destroy Hamas and ensure that Gaza will no longer be a threat to Israel,” he said.

On December 21 , it became known that the Palestinian group Hamas rejected the offer of the Israeli authorities for a week-long truce in exchange for the release of dozens of hostages held in the Gaza Strip.

Israel reportedly offered to declare a truce for a week, suspending ground and air operations in the Gaza Strip, in exchange it asked Hamas to release 40 hostages, including all remaining women and children, as well as elderly men in need of urgent medical attention.

According to the latest data, more than a hundred hostages captured by Hamas during the attack on Israel on October 7 continue to remain in the Gaza Strip. Among them are 19 women and two children.

On December 2, Israel announced that it was recalling its representatives who had negotiated with Hamas for the release of the hostages. This was preceded by a truce in Gaza, which lasted from November 24 to December 1. During this time, Hamas released 105 hostages, including more than 20 citizens of other countries, and Israel released 210 Palestinians from prison.

Israeli authorities accused Hamas of violating the terms of the truce after a new rocket attack on the country and a terrorist attack in the suburbs of Jerusalem, for which the Palestinian group claimed responsibility.
