The International Buker Prize in Literature in 2023 received Georgy Mr. for the novel “Time -Warewood” - this moment successfully coincided with the release of the book in Russian. The history of the Bulgarian writer, which begins as a philosophical novel about the dangers of nostalgia, turns out to be a global self -intact prediction. “Sooner or later, every utopia becomes a historical novel,” the author writes.

A Gaustin psychiatrist named Gaustin opens a clinic in Zurich for people with Alzheimer's disease. It is called “treatment of the past” - here patients can return to the cozy world of their childhood. Each floor of the clinic reproduces a certain decade, each room represents a separate country of the socialist block. More and more people in the world are getting sick - and Gaustine opens the units of the clinic at all points of the planet. The experience proposed by the doctor likes his customers so much that the countries decide to hold a worldwide referendum - and, in its results, to everyone together to move to a happy past. During the vote, they decide which decade will be the most successful for every country.

One of the types of nostalgia that Mr.s writes about is nostalgia for the Soviet past. Like the narrator who in the novel helps the main character to manage the clinic network, Gaustin is from Bulgaria. Humiting at the same time, the country ultimately remains without “Ikea”, its borders are closed, opposition media move to Prague, and their readers in their homeland are accepted to follow the police detachments in “Lada”. It is in this part that the novel becomes truly important for the Russian reader, and the main motives become recognizable.

But this book is more than a convincing call to refuse to idealize the past. And definitely the “time -wizard” is not an exciting anti -utopia, which it might seem to be described. Rather, we have a long essay, dedicated to memory and oblivion (the author quotes Joseph Brodsky and T. S. Eliot). It is important not to fantasize about the past, the master insists, but to preserve live and critical attention to him.

Linor Goralik "Bobo"

Linor Goralik remains one of the main figures of Russian -speaking literature - including thanks to the Almanac of anti -war and opposition texts of Roar , which she has published since April 2022 (it is obvious that it was the Minuster who announced the Goranik “in the agent” - despite the fact that she never had a Russian passport). Her novel "Bobo" can be called the main anti-war book of 2023. It is difficult to imagine the output of this book in any Russian publishing house - that is why it is published in the public domain: everyone can download and read Bobo.

This is the story of the elephant, which the Turkish Sultan gives the Russian king - he is being taken from Istanbul through Kerch, to Orenburg, where the sovereign, along with his minions, sits in the bunker. The royal environment is described without names, but the heroes easily recognize Simonyan, Lavrov, and Shoigu. Russia on which the elephant is going on is completely modern: with mobilization, verses “ZA Donbass” (“The heart cannot be hot when the earth burns in the Donbass”), rare desperate and young protesters and security officials who beat them. The elephant calls riot police "glass -headed."

But the instant recognition of the historical moment is not the most valuable in the novel. The elephant itself is important - alive, thinking and speaking. This is not the first time Goralik writes about animals that are smarter and more humane than people: she had a whole novel “All capable of breathing”, where animals learned to speak as a result of the Apocalypse. So in “Bobo” - only Soyk and dogs here realize what is happening - they swear and scream with horror. This awareness does not come to the elephant right away.

Freedom letters began to work, books in Russian are published by the Babel Tel Aviv bookstore, we have announced the launch of the project of Alexander Gavrilov “See” (we must start at the end of December); She launched her Medusa publishing house.

The first Big Tamizdat hit - Sergey Davydov’s novel “Springfield” also went out of the press.

Together they stagger around the city, divide the mattress into the outskirts into two on the outskirts and imagine Los Angeles around themselves “with endless beaches and silicone valleys in the form of factories and technical universities”.

The secret of the success of the Springfield, of course, is not only that in its center is a homosexual couple (it is worth noting that the author does not limit itself in either language or images). This is also a ruthless book about the dreams of millennials destroyed by war.

Lorry Moore "Laid Staircase"

American writer Lorry Moore is a master of short prose. She has been writing since the mid-1980s. The most famous collection of her stories, the hit of 1998 "Birds of America", in Russian was only published in 2022. The novel “Loaded Staircase” (2009), which came out this year in Russian, may turn out to be the best that you will read about life after the disaster.

2023-й запомнится, как год прощания с большими мастерами — легендами прошлого. Вышла последняя песня The Beatles — сдержанное и выдержанное послесловие к истории главной поп-группы ХХ века; для нее сэр Пол доделал демо-запись Леннона, ждавшую своего часа почти полвека. Сериал покорил даже тех, у кого никогда не было приставки. При этом кинематографисты не стали менять сюжет игры и дотошно воспроизвели сцены из нее, при этом расширив биографии основных и второстепенных персонажей. «Одни из нас» — дорогое роуд-муви о переживании горя посреди рушащегося мира. Джоэл обретает в Элли еще одну дочь (его собственный ребенок погибает в первой же серии). Сирота Элли теряет первую любовь во время свидания в заброшенном торговом центре, после чего находит в Джоэле опору.

Отдельная мелодраматическая короткометражка внутри сериала — третий эпизод «Долгое-долгое время», рассказывающий о нежной любви выживальщика-параноика и художника, случайно угодившего в его ловушку. Пока основной сюжет демонстриует моральный упадок общества, разрываемого гражданской войной, и ставит перед героями сложные этические вопросы, эта бутылочная серия напоминает, что получать удовольствие от жизни можно даже во время постапокалипсиса.

Автор «Горько!» и «Звоните ДиКаприо!» Жора Крыжовников исследует феномен казанских молодежных группировок, которые терроризировали город в конце 1980-х. Словечки «пацаны», «чушпаны», «скорлупа» снова вернулись в сленг 2020-х, как в плейлисты вернулась «Седая ночь» группы «Ласковый май». Запустить волну публичных споров о маскулинности, преступности и нежелании извиняться — вот где нужен настоящий талант автора. Безусловно, самый обсуждаемый сериал 2023 года в России (а может быть, даже главное культурное событие года), чей успех справедливо сравнивают со зрительским триумфом «Бригады» и «Брата».

Успех сериалу обеспечили не только удачный выбор актеров и внимание к деталям эпохи. Как Саша Белый или Данила Багров, Вова Адидас (Иван Янковский) оказывается типичным героем эпохи 1980-х: это справедливый, верный, но жестокий ветеран, говорящий к тому же мемоемкими крылатыми фразами. Крыжовников относится к своим персонажам без любования — в его сериале не больше героизации или романтизации, чем в «Крестных отцах» или «Однажды в Америке». Впрочем, это не мешает зрителям обожать пацанов — и собирать из ироничных или страшных сцен сериала (часто это драки под музыку «Аигел») вирусные тиктоки.

Неожиданный авторский выход Петра Федорова, звезды «Перевала Дятлова», «Спутника» и «Дуэлянта». Он написал, поставил и смонтировал восьмисерийный криминальный триллер о наркозависимом риелторе Олеге из Мурина (город в Ленинградской области), который, отправившись за очередной закладкой в лес, находит там килограмм порошка — но теряет сына. Таинственный голос обещает ему вернуть ребенка, если он срочно продаст товар. Главную роль, разумеется, играет сам Федоров, крайне убедительно и комично изображая перекрытого антигероя, вооруженного гвоздезабивным пистолетом.

Похожий на бэд-трип сериал об аморальном закладчике, его наивной религиозной жене и предприимчивой любовнице-стримерше — неожиданная история для российского кинематографа, пытающегося избегать маргинальных тем и любых «нетрадиционных ценностей».

Сюжет в духе «Во все тяжкие» и «Заложницы» накладывается на нервную визуальную эстетику фильмов Гаспара Ноэ и братьев Сэфди. Одинаковые человейники Мурина прервращаются в залипательные узоры, камера кружит над лесами, спальными районами и дорожными развязками, в сером небе появляются гигантские глитчевые собеседники, а видео с камер видеонаблюдения превращаются в выразительный визуальный инструмент. Дерзкое, смешное и завораживающее кино потерялось на фоне казанзских разборок — и выглядит случайной закладкой на стримингах. Но если «Слову пацана» уготован статус народного сериала, то «Ласт квест» обещает стать культовым в более узких кругах.

Ситком от главного современного инди-кинобренда А24 . В центре сюжета — мелкая перепалка на парковке, во время которой богатая владелица роскошного цветочного бутика на белом «мерседесе» показывает фак незадачливому разнорабочему. Конфликт разрастается до неприличных размеров. Уроженец Южной Кореи и дочь вьетнамско-китайских иммигрантов оказываются в равной степени несчастны — и попросту вымещают злость друг на друге; дело доходит до манипуляций, многоэтажной лжи и физического насилия. Главные роли играют Стивен Ён («Нет», «Ходячие мертвецы», «Минари» ) и стендап-комикесса Али Вонг из ромкома «Возможно, это навсегда».

Сценарист Ли Сон Джин, работавший над ситкомами «Тука и Берти», «Две девицы на мели» и «В Филадельфии всегда солнечно», талантливо смешивает жанры. Из дорожного триллера «Грызня» перерастает то в комедию положений, то в сатиру, высмеивающую стереотипы о бедных и богатых. А в финале зрителей ждет экзистенциальный линчевский хоррор о неудачном ограблении. Впрочем, радует не столько выверенный формализм авторов, сколько точные и смешные наблюдения о депрессии, одиночестве, комплексах и неумении людей разговаривать друг с другом.

Один из лучших телесериалов последних лет, чьи рейтинги на протяжении пяти лет и почти 40 эпизодов беспрерывно росли, закончился столь же триумфально. Сага о порочном семействе Роев, управляющем американской медиаимперией, завершается горько, смешно, а главное — логично. Наследники взбалмошного тирана Логана Роя наконец-то поделили власть, но никто не вышел победителем. А как могло быть иначе в этой сатирической драме, отсылающей к Шекспиру и античным трагедиям (и местами к «Игре престолов»)?

Зрители полюбили «Наследников» за сложные характеры героев, актерские бенефисы, остроумные диалоги и возможность подглядеть за внутренними коллизиями в герметичном мире сверхбогатых. Однако по большому счету любая семья, где есть сложные отношения между родителями и детьми, мужьями и женами, братьями и сестрами, может узнать в Роях себя. Кроме того, это злободневное высказывание о левых и правых, фейковых новостях и в целом — текущем положении дел в Америке.
