Yaroslavl musician Cupsize was fined for drug propaganda after Mizulina's denunciation

The Kirovsky District Court of Yaroslavl fined musician Nikolai Mamaev, known as Cupsize , 5 thousand rubles for drug propaganda. Although the decision was made in December, attention was drawn to it only after a press release from court officials in January.

Cupsize now has The rock band 25 thousand subscribers on VKontakte. The reason for the protocol was the eight songs posted there, including those with names such as “hydropon”, lsd , “overdose”, “you love weed” and “I stole an opiate”.

According to the court, “the words and meaning of the lyrics indicate open propaganda of narcotic drugs” (Part 1.1 of Article 6.13 of the Administrative Code). In August 2023, screenshots of Mamaev’s songs were posted by the head of the Safe Internet League, Ekaterina Mizulina, who promised to write a denunciation against him. As a result, the police filed a report almost a month after her post.

In court, Mamaev said that he “took the lyrics [of the songs] as a joke” and “wanted to make fun of the topic of drugs.” He also noted that he wrote a letter of apology to Mizulina and deleted posts with controversial songs. The tracks are still available in the group's audio recordings. The musician’s defender asked to give him a warning instead of a fine, since the student is not working and does not receive a scholarship, and “his songs are stupidity and a joke.”
