The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for abuse of power (Part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Code) after a major fire at the Wildberries warehouse in the village of Shushary near St. Petersburg. This was reported in the department’s telegram channel.

According to investigators, the crime is related to violation of fire safety rules by unidentified persons.

Kommersant, citing representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations , reports that it was possible to eliminate the open burning at the Wildberries warehouse more than a day after the fire.

The fire started on the morning of January 13. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire spread to 70 thousand square meters. It was assigned the highest level of difficulty. TASS reported that the cause of the fire could have been a faulty electrical wiring. RBC, with reference to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, writes that three versions of what happened are being considered: arson, a malfunction of the electrical network and careless handling of fire.

Fontanka, citing sources, reports one victim, a 22-year-old resident of St. Petersburg. According to the publication, she inhaled smoke from the fire. The Shot telegram channel also writes about three missing warehouse employees. There is no official information about the casualties.

Acting head of the regional department of Gosstroynadzor Vyacheslav Zakharov said that the warehouse was not officially put into operation. Wildberries deny this . The company promised to return money for burnt goods or deliver them as soon as possible if they are available in other warehouses.

According to Anton Bestugin, co-founder of the TOGO group of e-commerce companies, almost 9% of all Wildberries orders were shipped from the burned warehouse. The All-Russian Union of Insurers believes that the amount of damage could exceed ten billion rubles.
