The government supported the bill on confiscation of property from those convicted of “fakes” about the army

The Government Commission on Legislative Activities supported a bill providing for the confiscation of property of those convicted of “fakes” about the army. This was reported by RBC and RTVI with reference to sources.

The bill was introduced by United Russia members Irina Yarovaya, Vasily Piskarev and Elena Yampolskaya. The document proposes to expand Article 104.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on confiscation of property.

It is intended to confiscate property from those sentenced under the article on “fake news” about the army (207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) if this act was committed for selfish reasons. It is also proposed to add an article on public calls for activities directed against the security of the state to the list of sentences providing for confiscation (Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

In such cases, equipment that belongs to the convicted person, for example, a computer, tablet or mobile phone, can be turned into state income.

As RTVI notes, the government supported the bill without a single comment in its response. The document has not yet been submitted to the State Duma.
