Switzerland to host global 'peace summit' on Ukraine at heads of state level. Russia not invited

Switzerland intends to host a global meeting on Ukraine at the level of heads of state. This was stated by the President of the Swiss Federal Council Viola Amgerd at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Mr. Zelensky asked me whether Switzerland would be ready to organize a summit. I confirmed: Switzerland would be ready to organize a conference. We agreed that we would deal with this issue in depth so that the peace process would be successful," she added.

Zelensky, in turn, said that Switzerland and Ukraine will begin preparing for the event tomorrow, January 16.

Judging by Zelensky's comment, representatives of Russia will not be invited to the summit. "We are open to all countries of the world that respect our sovereignty and territorial integrity. Therefore, draw your own conclusions about who we are inviting," the Ukrainian president said in response to a question about the meeting's participants.

The day before, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis stated that sooner or later Moscow would need to be brought into the negotiations, “since there will be no peace without Russia having its say.”

• The fourth meeting of the "peace formula" at the level of national security advisers was held in Switzerland on January 14. According to Zelensky's office, representatives of 81 countries took part in the meeting (according to Switzerland, there were 83 delegations).
