They had little right, they could not vote, study at universities and engage in many activities. But then a revolution occurred, and the authorities passed to the new government, where they paid more attention to equality. During the Soviet Union, which appeared after the revolution, women received more chances and rights. They began to actively participate in politics, education, their work was evaluated in the same way as male. And the right to abortion was simply exceptional. Abortions were allowed and even financed by the state. This means that women could seek medical help if they needed to terminate the pregnancy, and not worry about their money.

Abortion for a certain period was prohibited, from 1936 to 1955. It is predictably, this led to an increase in mortality and did not lead to an increase in the birth rate, so after Stalin the abortions were again decriminalized.

Women in the USSR were declared equal. Declated - this does not mean that they were. There were a million cultural and economic problems that still last: the second shift, a glass ceiling, and the difference in salaries. But declarativeness is important. The declarativeness denotes a certain norm: what we strive for and what we consider correct. There is a big difference between the fact that we hide violence and murder, and the fact that we boast of them. In practice, there is one reality, but we all understand the difference. Yes, women in the USSR lived, frankly, imperfectly, but in words they had a choice and self -esteem. And today, women are taken away from women.
