Drones attacked a port in the Leningrad region. Large gas storage facility damaged

On the night of January 21, drones attacked the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region. As a result, a large gas storage facility belonging to the Novatek company caught fire. This was reported by the local publication Fontanka.

According to him, two drones were spotted at about 1 am on their approach to St. Petersburg. Then the drones changed course and headed towards the Kingisepp district of the Leningrad region, where the terminals of the port of Ust-Luga are located. There, drones attacked the Novatek chemical plant, damaging one of the gas tanks.

Eyewitnesses told the publication that they heard a powerful explosion, after which the gas storage facility caught fire. Local governor Alexander Drozdenko also reported about the fire in the port. “There were no casualties as a result of the fire at the terminal of the Novatek company in the port of Ust-Luga. The personnel have been evacuated,” he wrote in his Telegram channel. At the same time, Drozdenko did not say anything about the causes of the fire.

At the same time, according to Drozdenko, a high alert regime has been introduced in the Kingisepp district of the Leningrad region.

In turn, TASS reported that two tanks and a pumping station were damaged as a result of the fire.

The Russian Ministry of Defense also did not report anything about a drone attack in the Leningrad region. At the same time, the department reported on drones shot down over the Oryol , Smolensk and Tula regions.

On the night of January 18, the Russian Ministry of Defense for the first time since the beginning of the war in Ukraine reported on a Ukrainian drone shot down in the sky in the Leningrad region.

Later, Ukrainian media, citing sources in the intelligence services, reported that the attack was a special operation of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and its target was the St. Petersburg oil terminal.
