The EU imposed sanctions against the head of the Safe Internet League Mizulina and the judges in the Kara-Murza case

The European Union has expanded the list of sanctions against Russians. The “Safe Internet League” and its head Ekaterina Mizulina were subject to restrictions, according to the website of the European Council.

In addition, sanctions were imposed against judge of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow Valentina Levashova, judge of the Moscow City Court Lyudmila Smolkina, as well as against prosecutor Oleg Alypov. The EU justified the sanctions by saying that they were all involved in the criminal prosecution of politician Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison under articles about military “fakes”, participation in the activities of an “undesirable” organization and treason.

Ekaterina Mizulina is known for writing denunciations against musicians and bloggers. For example, she called on the security forces to punish the singer Charlotte, who burned a Russian passport on camera. When the musician arrived in Russia, he was detained at the airport. Now Charlotte is in a pre-trial detention center under the article on insulting the feelings of believers (148 of the Criminal Code) and two episodes of the article on the rehabilitation of Nazism (Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code).
