The Duma adopted a law on the confiscation of property from those convicted of military “fakes” for “mercenary motives” and crimes against state security

In the third reading, the State Duma adopted a bill on confiscation of property from those convicted of military “fakes” for “mercenary motives” and crimes against state security. This was reported on the website of the lower house of parliament.

The amendments were adopted unanimously in the second and third readings. At the same time, in the first reading, as drew the telegram channel Faridaily attention to, three deputies voted against the bill: Sergei Shargunov (Communist Party of the Russian Federation), Sardana Avksentyeva and Ksenia Goryacheva (“New People”).

“The law on scoundrels has been adopted,” State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin commented on the vote. “The decision made will make it possible to punish those who carry out activities against their country - to deprive these scoundrels of honorary titles, as well as confiscate their property, money and other valuables,” he added.

The innovations will expand the list of crimes for which confiscation of property and deprivation of titles and awards are provided. In addition, the authorities supplemented the article on calls for activities directed against the security of the state (280.4 of the Criminal Code) with qualifying signs of committing a crime for mercenary reasons or for hire (point “d”) and based on political and ideological hatred (point “d”). They also added to the list of crimes, the commission of which is considered an activity against the security of the state, articles on sabotage activities.

After the law comes into force, those convicted of “fakes” about the army (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) and calls for activities directed against the security of the state, if the crimes were committed for selfish reasons, will be able to deprive of property “obtained as a result of committing crimes.”

In addition, property and valuables can be confiscated if they were received or used for activities directed against the security of the state, that is, for any of the crimes previously listed in the note to Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code. These include, but are not limited to, treason, espionage, disobeying orders, and desertion.

Military ranks and state awards will now be deprived not only of those who were convicted of committing serious and especially grave crimes, but also of those who were found guilty under “softer” articles - in particular, in cases of calls for extremism, incitement of hatred and hostility, “discrediting” the army, rehabilitation of Nazism and “fakes” about the army.
