The remains of those killed in the Il-76 crash in the Belgorod region have been identified. The corresponding message appeared in the official telegram channel of the Investigative Committee.

“In total, more than 670 fragments of the bodies of the victims, as well as partially preserved personal documents, were discovered and seized in the area where the plane crashed,” it says.

The department noted: “When working with detained Ukrainian military personnel, the investigation must take biological material to establish a genetic profile.” Thanks to this, according to the Investigative Committee, the investigation had at its disposal the genetic profiles of all Ukrainian prisoners who, according to Russian authorities, were on board the crashed plane.

According to the Investigative Committee, the remains of six crew members, three military police officers and 65 Ukrainian prisoners flying on the Il-76 have been identified.

On January 24, a Russian military transport aircraft Il-76 crashed in the Korochansky district of the Belgorod region. Russian authorities said there were 74 people on board, including 65 Ukrainian prisoners, who were being taken to the exchange site.

Vladimir Putin blamed Ukraine for the incident and said that the plane was shot down by the Ukrainian military using an American Patriot anti-aircraft system. At the same time, according to Putin, Ukrainian intelligence knew that there were Ukrainian prisoners of war on board.

However, Putin stated that Russia does not intend to refuse further exchanges of prisoners of war with Ukraine.
