Hamas has tentatively approved the terms of the hostage release deal

Representatives of the Palestinian group Hamas have tentatively approved the terms of a new deal for the gradual release of Israeli hostages. This was reported by Al Hadath TV channel.

According to him, at the first stage the deal involves the release of 35 Israeli hostages held by Hamas in exchange for a 35-day truce and the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons.

On January 30 , it became known that Hamas rejected the terms of a new deal to release the hostages. Representatives of the group demanded in exchange for captured Israelis a complete cessation of the war and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.

Hamas militants took several hundred hostages during an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. More than a thousand more Israelis and foreign citizens were killed . In response, Israel completely blocked the Gaza Strip and sent troops there with the intention of destroying Hamas. The Palestinian Ministry of Health, controlled by the group , reported that more than 25 thousand Palestinians died as a result of the conflict.

In November, the parties agreed on a truce, as part of which they exchanged hostages. Hamas released 108 people. According to The Times of Israel, another 132 people remain in captivity.

On January 22, relatives of Israelis remaining captive by Hamas stormed a meeting of the Knesset Finance Committee and demanded that any necessary measures be taken to free the hostages.

They insisted that the Israeli authorities pay a ransom for the captives and shouted: “You will not sit here while our children die.” They also proposed dissolving the country's government.
