The lower house of the German parliament, Bundestag, on February 2, with more than a monthly delay, voted for the budget for 2024 with debt restrictions and the abolition of agricultural subsidies, which farmers opposed. The document contains almost 8 billion euros of military assistance to Ukraine, writes on AFP .
The budget of Germany for 2024 was adopted in 388 votes "FOR" and 279 votes "against". It will amount to 477 billion euros, of which 39 billion euros are borrowed.
Thus, Germany returns to the constitutionally fixed practice of the “debt brake”, which does not allow the state to occupy more than 0.35% of the annual GDP.
The mechanism was suspended in 2020 amid the pandemic Covid-19 and later continued due to the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation to Ukraine.
The budget provides for a higher tax on passenger flights, changes in social benefits, as well as a reduction in agricultural subsidies - in particular, a phased cancellation of tax benefits for diesel fuel for farmers, which caused indignation of the latter.
At the same time, almost 8 billion euros of military assistance to Ukraine, announced last year, are laid down in the document.
As reported , Germany will transfer to Ukraine six multi -purpose SEA King helicopters, with the help of which the Armed Force of Ukraine (Armed Forces) will be able to conduct reconnaissance in the Black Sea. This was stated by German defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
"Sea King is a reliable and powerful helicopter that will help Ukrainians in many areas: from intelligence over the Black Sea to transportation of the military. This is the first supply of this kind from Germany," Pistorus said on the online meeting of the Ukrainian contact group in Ramstein format.
German Chancellor Olaf Sholts called on European partners to strengthen financial and military assistance to Ukraine.
