The Russian Ministry of Justice has added to the register of “foreign agents”, including the chairman of the liquidated Memorial, Oleg Orlov. This is reported on the department's website.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the human rights activist opposed the war in Ukraine and “disseminated false information about the decisions taken by public authorities of the Russian Federation and the policies pursued by them.” Orlov also participated in the creation of “foreign agents” content and “is a member of an organization included in the register.”
A court in Moscow in October sentenced Orlov to a fine of 150 thousand rubles in the case of repeated “discredit” of the army. The reason for initiating the case was an anti-war post on Facebook. The Moscow City Court canceled the fine and returned the case to the prosecutor's office.
In addition to Orlov, the register included:
co-founder of "Wikimedia.ru" Stanislav Kozlovsky,
Novosibirsk deputy Anton Kartavin,
historian, deputy executive director of the Yeltsin Center Nikita Sokolov,
activist Mikhail Chimarov,
journalist Sergei Stepanov.
