Sergei Karaganov - about his “return” to Siberia

Political scientist Sergei Karaganov writes :

“A new, but long-predicted situation dictates to us and calls us to return to our “home”, to Siberia, from a more than three-hundred-year European journey that gave a lot, but a long time ago, a century ago, and has exhausted its usefulness.

<…> The Mongols plundered, but also contributed to development. <…> Apparently, from the empire of Genghis Khan we also inherited our, now almost unique, cultural, national and religious openness.

<...> Siberia powerfully strengthened the best in the Russian character: cultural and national openness, craving for freedom - Russian freedom, immeasurable courage. Siberia was explored by people of dozens of nationalities intertwined with the local population. <...> This is how the Siberian was formed - the concentration of the best in the Russian person - Russian Russian, Russian Tatar, Russian Buryat, Russian Yakut, Russian Chechen and further down the list.

<…> It is necessary not only to facilitate the resettlement of Russians from the center, including from the reunited lands <…> to Siberia, but also to encourage Siberians with their experience and outlook, a sense of closeness to Asia to govern the country.”
