"Disgusting and unconscionable." The head of Bashkortostan speaks about the proposal to honor the memory of the deceased after the activist was detained

The head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, called the proposal for a minute of silence in memory of activist Rifat Dautov “disgusting and unconscionable.” The video was published on Khabirov’s telegram channel.

The proposal was voiced by dancer Rif Gabitov. “ It is disgusting and unconscionable, because we must present moments of silence to those people who really died for their homeland, for freedom, and deserved the respect of people,” Khabirov said. He stated that Dautov “ is accused of a serious crime.” According to him, the results of the examination are not yet known, but the “first results” showed that “there are no hematomas, nothing.”

Dautov died after being detained by security forces due to his participation in protests in Baymak. According to his sister Zaliya Akhmadieva, on January 25, in the Zianchurinsky district, Dautov was detained by riot police officers, who “took him away in an unknown direction.” The next day it became known that the activist had died. His sister pointed out that he did not participate in the protests.

Protests in Baymak began after the court sentenced activist Fail Alsynov to four years in a general regime colony for inciting hatred (Part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Thousands of people came to court to support him. Security forces tried to disperse the crowd using tear gas and batons. After this, criminal cases were opened regarding mass riots and the use of violence against government officials.
