Human rights activists received information about the alleged “honor killing” in early February. On February 6, they submitted an application to the Investigative Committee and the prosecutor's office with a demand to urgently verify reports that Sed Suleymanova could have been killed by relatives.

The girl escaped from Chechnya last year and reached St. Petersburg, as they wanted to force her into marriage. her On August 23, police detained , saying that she was a suspect in a criminal case of theft. After this, Suleymanova was handed over to Chechen security forces, who took her to Grozny. There, the girl was forced to sign a waiver of legal services, and then handed over to her relatives.
