A large fire occurred in a residential building in Moscow

On the night of February 9, a major fire occurred in a residential building in Moscow. TASS reports this.

The roof of a six-story residential building on Chernyakhovsky Street near the Airport metro station caught fire. In less than an hour, the fire area grew from 300 square meters to four thousand.

The attic of the burning building collapsed and the fire spread to two neighboring buildings. Agency sources in the operational services said that this was the largest fire in a residential building in the modern history of Moscow.

The fire was assigned the third of five difficulty levels. More than 130 people and 41 pieces of equipment, as well as two Ka-32 helicopters from the Moscow Aviation Center took part in extinguishing it.

A few hours later the fire was extinguished. 400 people were evacuated from the burning building. At some point, reports appeared in the media about ten victims, but they were denied by the capital's head office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The department said there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

According to the Shot telegram channel, the cause of the fire could have been a malfunction of the snow melting system installed on the roof of the building.

In connection with the fire, the Investigative Committee began a pre-investigation check on the grounds of a crime under the article “violation of fire safety requirements” (Part 1 of Article 219 of the Criminal Code).
